Quick and easy buttercream frosting without blender or any fancy ingredient

Yesterday I made this cake for my daughter's 4th birthday. Actually I was not planning to make buttercream decoration. Because last time when I tried buttercream frosting, I was a failed experiment. Frosting was like very sugary, sweet and desnse. I know it was my mistake. So I was bit skeptical this time. But I didn't find any suitable substitute for cake frosting. I don't have a blender or whipped cream. So I again followed the last year recipe and it turned out just perfect this time 😍 I think I should share what I learned, so you too can make a beautiful cake. Original recipe asks you to use a blender but worked fine without it too.

I have modified the original recipe. It uses icing sugar, which is not easily available in our kitchen. But we do have sugar and cornflour. Cornflour helps stabilize buttercreamTo make this buttercream frosting you will need regular sugar, cornflour, butter, mixer grinder (to grind the sugar), a large bowl and a spoon or a whisk.

First I will share some tips.

1. You must grind sugar very finely. It should be superfine without any gritty particles. Just don't grind it continuously, because it will become hot and the increased temperature can melt the sugar. So grind it for a minute and then turn off the mixer for a minute, fluff the sugar with a spoon and then grind it again. Repeat this procedure for 3-4 times

2. You must sift the powdered sugar.

3. Use room temperature, softened butter.

4. 100 gram butter or 1 amul butter stick is roughly 1/2 cup.

Servings: Sufficient to decorate a 9" cake
Total time: 15 min

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups regular sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 amul butter stick)
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
  • A pinch of salt

Procedure:
  1. In a a mixer jar, add sugar and cornflour. Grind it into very fine powder.
  2. Sift the powdered sugar. Keep it aside. (You won't need all the powdered sugar made).
  3. In a large, deep bowl take softened, room temperature butter. Whisk it ligthly.
  4. Measure 2 cups of powdered sugar and add it to the butter. Mix it well.
  5. Add 1 tbsp of milk, vanilla essence, salt and mix it properly.
  6. Now beat the mixture vigorously (with a whisk or a spoon) for 5 minutes to get fluffy, light and pale yellow to white buttercream frosting.
  7. You can use this buttercream for frosting or piping.
